Bookkeeping, Payroll & BAS

Most people don't like this page - we get it - you think this stuff is boring!
BUT - We love this page. These tasks are important to being able to ensure your financials are accurate and reliable and your business remains compliant.

Bookkeeping Services

Once upon a time, Bookkeepers were tasked with “keeping the books neat and tidy” and “general data entry”.

Nowadays, the modern Bookkeeper does so much more!

Payroll Services

These days, getting your payroll right isn’t always as easy as it sounds.

As Certified Bookkeepers & Registered BAS Agents with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB), we are able to offer our clients compliant Payroll & Superannuation services.

BAS Agent Services

As a Registered BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB), we are able to offer our clients “BAS Services”. There is often some confusion over “What a BAS Service is”, but as per the ATO website it’s fairly clear:

BAS agents may offer additional services on behalf of their clients as indicated by the Tax Practitioners Board, including:

Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions

Great question. Some businesses may not but this will depend on your Accountant.

Traditionally, Accountants will look at your books only at “BAS” or “Tax” time, where as your Bookkeeper will be hands on with your accounting system on a daily  or weekly basis.

Yes, BUT, and it’s a very big BUT, you should only allow your employee to complete BAS Agent tasks if you are comfortable with them doing so. The liability of anything they do as an employee will generally fall on the shoulders of the business owner.

If you don’t understand what your employee is processing or lodging, it might be a good idea to have a BAS Agent to check prior to lodgement.

The ATO expects that all businesses will keep detailed records.

They also share their 5 rules for record keeping which are:

  1. Keep ALL documents in relation to starting, running, changing and selling/closing your business.
You also must have show how you have established any Business V’s Personal portion of costs.
  2. Records that you keep must be unchanged and protected from being damaged.
  3. Records need to be kept for 5 years from when you lodged your Tax Return. This is a minimum time frame as there are some instances where you may have to keep them longer.
  4. If asked, you need to be able to show your documents. Also if you’re storing data online, you need to use encryption system, passwords and have them labelled appropriately.
  5. Records must be in English or easily convertible to English.

A bookkeeper is definitely NOT the same thing as a BAS Agent.

A bookkeeper can do all the data entry and general reconciliations, where as your BAS Agent can advise, prepare and lodge your BAS, IAS, PAYGW, PAYGI and STP Finalisations.
